Breathing Tools

When you become enrolled in our program you will be encouraged to purchase breathing devices designed to clear and strengthen your airways.
Acapella Vibratory PEP Therapy System
The Acapella combines the benefits of both PEP (Positive Expiratory Pressure) therapy and airway vibrations to mobilize pulmonary secretions. It improves clearance of secretions and is easier to tolerate than chest physiotherapy (CPT) taking less than half the time of conventional CPT sessions. This instrument facilitates the opening of airways in patients with lung diseases with secretory problems such as COPD, Asthma, and Cystic Fibrosis.
Inspiratory Muscle Trainer (PFlex)
Many of our patients develop weaknesses in their chest and diaphragm muscles which are the primary muscles used for taking in oxygen. This contributes to chronic shortness of breath and impairs their capability to exercise. The IMT is a specialized device that improves control of your breathing through resistance. Different sized ports increase or lessen your use of auxiliary lung muscles to improve ventilatory muscle endurance.
Incentive Spirometer
The incentive spirometer is an instrument used to help patients improve the functioning of their lungs. It is provided to patients who have had any surgery that might jeopardize respiratory function particularly surgery to the lungs themselves. The incentive spirometer is also issued to patients recovering from rib damage to help minimize the chance of fluid build-up in the lungs.
